Broadly speaking the Tiles in construction would comprise of glass tile, quarry tile, mosaic tile, granite tile etc. But I will restrict this podcast to explore and understand ceramic and porcelain tiles their origin, their differences, applications and a brief production process. Though porcelain and ceramic are different, the word ceramic is used broadly to include both.

The market today for floor finishing Globally is close to $ 362 billion. Which includes the soft flooring, i.e. carpet, rubber flooring, vinyl and hard surface flooring, which is Ceramic, natural stone and hardwood. Of this the market for Ceramics is around 130 billion and growing. One must wonder as to what makes ceramic a preferred choice by architects/ designers and end users. That’s exactly what this podcast is all about!
